A 3rd-year Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering student named Franklin Lingga Abun from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) recently got a 10-year contract offer with BMW Group. He’s the first-ever Sarawakian to get this kind of impressive offer from the automotive giant.
The 20-year-old man is one of the top three candidates. His idea on semi-solar electric generation amazed a panel of judges in Austria, according to Lobak Merah. Other candidates were process engineers from Germany and design engineers from South Korea.

Franklin, on the other hand, revealed that he’s hesitant about it at first, considering that it requires a lot of money.
“When I first received the offer, I was having second thoughts because I know it requires a lot of money to be able to travel to Austria for the presentation.”
Fortunately, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar James Masing and Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan helped him.
Snowdan even said:
“The Ibans are very proud of Franklin and our support means a lot to him. We’re proud because there are a lot of talented Sarawakians and he’s one of them who got to sign the contract with BMW.”
